WOW! Reading Challenge begins on November 1, 2022!
(Thursday October 20, 2022) – It’s almost that time of year again – let the Challenge begin!
The Adopt-A-Library Literacy Program’s WOW! Reading Challenge began in Pictou County seventeen years ago and has grown to include divisions for all ages (daycares and Preschools, Elementary, Middle/Junior High, High Schools, private/separate and home-schools too! “It’s our 16th year, and we’re still going strong!” says John Kennedy, AAL Program Coordinator.
This reading competition is open to all schools, preschools, private/separate schools and home-schools in Pictou and Antigonish Counties, and it is free. All competitions will close on April 1st, 2023. Preschools and Elementary Schools will count the total number of books read, while Middle Schools and High Schools will count the total number of pages read.
Here’s a snapshot of where the 2021- 2022 WoW! Challenge wrapped up in Spring 2022!
Number of students who participated: 2,937
Number of schools who participated: 12
Number of books read at the elementary level: 294,496
Number of pages read at the Middle and High School Level: 5,341,383
